ABSTRACT

The subject of the woman's participation in the science constitutes one of the great debates today in the analysis and study of science as an institutionalized method for understanding of the world, since hindering the access to and the participation of an important part of the humanity in the scientific adventure would go against the main principles and rules of conduct of scientific community. From the history of science's point of view, it is observed that the tradition of the main scientific discoveries has been credited in its great majority to the masculine gender, while women's participation has not been considered important to be told, in other words, has been forgotten. This oblivion constitutes an important gap in the historical account of the leading roles in science, accentuating the traditional masculine vision it possesses. From the epistemology point of view, it is considered that science is impoverished when contributions accomplished by women are omitted, rebounding in the professional development of both genders. Beginning from this historical considerations, our study aims to analyze the subjects selected and published in two international scientific journals, Science and Nature in the 90's, intending to find out if the subjects of this discussion are conditioned by the study of agenda-setting and if they reflect the issue of woman's role in science. As secondary objectives we accomplished a review of the history of feminism and suffragism, exploring the equality theme and the search for differentiation; another topic treated, necessary for establishing a general vision of the proposed problem is the social study of science and gender perspective in the constitution of a new paradigm.
